Build your first route

What "due" means, how one-tap optimization works, and the three ways to view and adjust a day.

Updated September 11, 2026

Routes are built per tech, per day. The optimizer looks at which pools are due, where they are, how long each stop takes, and turns that into the shortest sensible drive.

What makes a pool "due"

A pool's schedule decides it:

  • Weekly and biweekly pools are due when the date matches their service day and enough days have passed since the last visit.
  • Monthly pools target the first occurrence of their service day each month.
  • Paused pools and pools without map coordinates are never due.

You do not have to track any of this. The Routes page does it for you.

Optimize a day

  1. Open Routes and pick a date (Today and Tomorrow are one tap).
  2. Tap Optimize. Due pools are assigned to techs, ordered for minimal driving, and each stop gets an estimated arrival time.
  3. Review the result in List view, or switch to Map to see the day drawn on a map, numbered in drive order.

An amber callout above the list shows any pools that are due that day but not on a route yet, so nothing slips silently.

Adjust by hand

  • Drag stops to reorder within a route. A day you touch is marked as manually adjusted and the nightly planner leaves it alone.
  • Calendar view is the dispatcher board: drag a stop to another day, or in day view drag it between techs' lanes. Due pools sit in a tray you can drag onto any lane.
  • Skip and reschedule moves a stop to tomorrow or the next service day, with an optional text to the customer.

The nightly planner

Each night PoolChecker automatically builds and optimizes the next few days ahead. It skips days you have adjusted, closed days, and holidays, and it never touches a route a tech has already started. Practical effect: after setup, most mornings the day is simply ready.

Where routes start from

Drive time is measured from a start point: the business address in Settings by default, or each tech's own start location if they set one under My Account, My Start Location.
